QUOTE

Here are my basic ideas and thoughts.

As you know, I have been a regular member of the American Choral Association since graduating college in 1070 and my association with that org and its thousands of members has been an important part of my professional career.  In Carnegie Hall some 4750 of those choirs (!) have performed on my series and in Syros, since 2005, 106 American choirs have appeared—18 of them twice.   The general purpose of the meeting of Nov 2 is create ideas and dialogue with your Association Choirs throughout Greece.

First….. I want to open the door to the Greek choirs to come to Carnegie Hall and appear with other American choirs in my series starting in 2019 (Feb thru June—-we are planning 18 different concerts).   This is what Miranda Caldi’s choir did.  They were the first ever to appear on my series.  The year 2019 is MidAmerica’s 36th Season in Carnegie Hall.

Second…..I would like to open the door for “conductor exchanges” where American choir directors come to top choirs in Greece and spend a week rehearsing, performing etc.,   And then, in return, the Greek choir directors coming for a week residency to the same location where the American choir director came from, again spending a week.

Third….I would like to open the door to Greek choirs coming to Syros specifically on Saturday July 21 2018 for a Plateia concert to do an OPERA CHORAL GALA (joining the American choirs coming to Syros—approx 150). featuring 5 or 6 well known Opera Choruses such as:

*. Mascagni’s REGINA COELI from Cavalleria Rusticana (6″) and Arnca from the same opera……5 minutes (satb)

*. Verdi’s Va Pensiero from NABUCCO. 4″

*. Mozart’s O Isis from MAGIC FLUTE 3″

*. Verdi’s Triumphal Scene from AIDA  11″

*. Verdi’s Patria Oppressa from MCBETH. 6″

And maybe one or two more.

World class soloists would also perform within these opera choruses and also do special arias and duets from classic operas.  Total length of the program would be 90 minutes.

We have not done a Plateia concert for 5 years because of costs, but I have found a sponsor.

The choirs would have to arrive in Syros by Wednesday morning July 18 for the first rehearsal with the American choirs on Wednesday afternoon at 2pm.   There would be rehearsals on July 19 and 20 as well with the generale with orchestra on the afternoon of July 21 with the concert in the Plateia that night at 9:30pm.  The Pan-European Philharmonia will perform also.

Fourth……for the first time, this same program which I just wrote about in Syros for July 21, will be performed in IRODION or MEGARON on Tuesday July 24 2018 with the Pan-European Philharmonia, soloists and all of the same choirs (hopefully).  Certainly, the America choirs will perform because they depart for home on Wednesday July 25.  I am meeting with the Artistic Dir of the Athens Festival on Nov 3 and Logiadis, also, to discuss MEGARON.   This concert could also take place on Monday July 23 if July 24 is not possible.

Most importantly, I want to create choral art performance, dialogue, interaction and exchange between American choirs and Greek Choirs.

Of the four above, #3 and #4 are for 2018 and #1 and #2 for 2019.

I hope this explains my purposes and motives. Your involvement is critically important.
